IMMUNIZATIONS :

Vaccines are one of the safest and most effective ways to protect your health and the health of our community. They help your body build immunity against serious diseases like measles, flu, and whooping cough. In many cases, vaccines can prevent illness completely or make symptoms much less severe. Staying up to date on recommended vaccines protects not only you, but also infants, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems who are more vulnerable to complications. At Richland County TB and Public Health Office, we are here to answer your questions and help you stay protected at every stage of life.

IMMUNIZATION RECORDS :

If you need assistance completing a certificate of compliance for college, employment, or other requirements, our team is here to help. Personal immunizations records are available for a small fee.

FOREIGN TRAVEL IMMUNIZATIONS :

Traveling to other countries can expose you to diseases that are not commonly found in the United States. Travel immunizations help protect you from illnesses such as yellow fever, typhoid, and hepatitis A that may be present in certain regions. The vaccines you may need depend on your destination, length of stay, and planned activities. It is recommended to schedule a travel consultation several weeks before your trip to ensure you have time to receive any needed vaccines and guidance. At Richland County TB and Public Health Office, we can help you prepare for safe and healthy travel.

TUBERCULOSIS RISK ASSESSMENT SCREENING & TB TESTING :

A Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment is a simple questionnaire used to identify if someone may have been exposed to tuberculosis or is at higher risk for infection. It includes questions about symptoms, travel, work or living environments, and possible contact with someone who has TB. Based on your responses, our team can determine if further testing, such as a TB skin test or blood test, is recommended. This process helps ensure early detection and prevents the spread of tuberculosis in our community.

Tuberculosis (TB) skin testing is a simple and safe way to check for exposure to the bacteria that cause TB. A small amount of testing solution is placed just under the skin, usually on the forearm, and the area is checked 48 to 72 hours later for a reaction. The test helps identify individuals who may have been exposed and may need further evaluation or treatment. TB testing is often required for employment, school, or healthcare settings and plays an important role in preventing the spread of tuberculosis in our community. At Richland County TB and Public Health Office, we provide convenient TB skin testing and follow up care.

A NEGATIVE RESULT usually indicates that you have not been exposed to tuberculosis bacteria. In most cases, no further testing is needed unless you have symptoms or ongoing risk of exposure.

A POSITIVE RESULT suggests that your body has been exposed to tuberculosis bacteria at some point. A positive test does not mean you are sick or contagious. It means additional evaluation is needed, such as a chest x ray or further testing, to determine if the infection is inactive (latent) or active.
